Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 June 2026

We keep this short and plain. We collect only what we need to run View Finder, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.

The short version

  • We collect your email address and name when you sign up.
  • Your GPS location (if you share it) is used only to rank distances — it is never stored.
  • We use your data to provide the service and improve it.
  • We never sell your data to anyone.
  • You can request a copy or deletion of your data at any time.
  • We use Clerk (auth), Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), and Vercel (hosting).

1. Who we are

View Finder is operated by [COMPANY NAME](“we”, “us”, “our”). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Our EU contact address is: Bari, Puglia, Italy.
For all privacy enquiries: hello@viewfinderapp.co

This policy applies to all users of viewfinderapp.co and is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR.

3. Legal basis for processing

Under GDPR, we process your data under the following lawful bases:

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — processing your account details and subscription status is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — improving the app, preventing fraud, and maintaining security. We have balanced this against your rights and concluded our interests do not override yours.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for optional data such as GPS location and beta feedback, which you provide voluntarily.

4. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To provide the View Finder service (location scoring, weather data, filters)
  • To process subscription payments (when paid tiers launch)
  • To respond to your feedback and support requests
  • To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns
  • To send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets) — not marketing

We will never send you marketing emails without your explicit opt-in consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

5. Third-party data processors

📦 Right to portability

🚫 Right to object

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@viewfinderapp.co. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In the EU, this is your national data protection authority (e.g. Garante in Italy, CNIL in France). In the UK, this is the ICO (ico.org.uk).

8. Cookies and local storage

View Finder uses no advertising or tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage solely for functional purposes:

  • photo_finder_seen — remembers whether you have completed the welcome screen, so we don't show it on every visit.
  • beta_welcomed — remembers whether you have seen the beta welcome message.
  • photo_finder_tier — caches your subscription tier locally to avoid a server round-trip on every page load.

These are strictly necessary for the app to function as expected. They do not track you across other websites and contain no personal data.

Clerk (our authentication provider) sets a session cookie when you sign in. This is strictly necessary and cannot be disabled without breaking the sign-in functionality.

9. Children's privacy

View Finder is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice in the app at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
